Construction Begins on Create Healthy Wellness Center Expansion

Phase I began Sept. 28 as Create Healthy moves forward with expanded space and resources for community health and wellness

Construction on the expansion and renovation of the Create Healthy Wellness Center began Monday, Sept. 28.  Over the next three years, the Wellness Center will nearly double in size to provide greater access and more health and wellness options for our growing community.

“This is an exciting milestone for a project that has been shaped from the beginning by what our community has told us it needs: more space, more classes, and more opportunities for connection and education” said Jayne Pope, RN, president and CEO of Create Healthy. “The expansion is an investment in the long-term health of the people and communities we serve. We are excited to see that vision begin taking shape and grateful to everyone who has helped us reach this point.”

The first phase of the expansion centers on construction of the Wellness Center’s new natatorium, which will create expanded swim space and capacity. The construction team anticipates this phase will take approximately 20 months to complete.

“This expansion reflects a long-term investment in the health and vitality of our community,” said Joel Junker, chair of the Create Healthy Board of Directors. “The Wellness Center already plays an important role in helping people stay active and healthy, and this project will allow Create Healthy to build on that foundation, expand access, and serve even more people for years to come.”

The existing pool will remain available for use until the new natatorium is complete and ready for use. While the entrance to the existing pool will change during construction, signage will be placed throughout the Wellness Center to help members navigate any temporary changes.

At this time, Create Healthy does not anticipate closing existing Wellness Center services or facilities during this phase of construction. As construction progresses, there may be occasions when a class needs to be relocated or rescheduled. Members will be notified in advance of changes that affect their normal Wellness Center experience.

“The Wellness Center has always been about giving people in our community a place to move, connect, and invest in their health,” said Dawn Bourgeois, director of the Create Healthy Wellness Center. “This expansion gives us the opportunity to do even more of that. The new pool and added space will help us serve more people, offer more options, and continue growing alongside the needs of our community.”

Updates will be shared through the Create Healthy website, social media, onsite signage, and other local communications. Project renderings will also be displayed at the Wellness Center so members can get a closer look at what is ahead.
