Create Healthy to Cover Stevens Wellness Center Membership Fees for City First Responders

Beginning October 1, Create Healthy, the Fredericksburg-based foundation investing in the health and wellness of the Hill Country, will cover the monthly membership fee for the Stevens Wellness Center for City of Fredericksburg law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel.

“Investing in the health and wellness of the men and women who protect and serve all of us is one way we can express our appreciation for their service and sacrifice,” said Jenny Weiser, chair, board of directors, Create Healthy. “They take care of our community every day. Offering a free Wellness Center membership is how we can do something to take care of them by supporting their physical and emotional health and well-being.”

The City of Fredericksburg currently subsides Wellness Center memberships for city police officers using funds from its continuing education fund. Under the new arrangement, Create Healthy will cover the costs of an annual Wellness Center membership for all City of Fredericksburg full-time law enforcement, emergency medical services personnel, and firefighters. The membership provides 24-hour access to the facility and to the pool during regular business hours.

Create Healthy is in the process of developing its overall grant funding strategy, including identifying areas of funding priority. Part of that process involves ongoing conversations with regional nonprofit, faith, government, school, and business leaders to harvest insight and perspective on areas Create Healthy can have the greatest impact and ensure that final funding priorities truly reflect the values and goals of the community.
