Closing the Childcare Gap and Fueling Brighter Futures in Llano

In a town with just one daycare and long waitlists for enrollment, the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes’ Llano Unit stepped up as more than an after-school program — it became a vital source of childcare, nutritious meals, healthy activities, and academic support for more than 90 kids last year.

But keeping the doors open in a community with limited economic resources isn’t easy. That’s where Create Healthy came in.

With funding from Create Healthy, the Club was able to do what it does best: support kids, empower families, and strengthen the local economy. The funding allowed the team to focus on serving children holistically.

“They’re funding childcare, yes — but also mental health, healthy lifestyles, and the future of our community,” said Bill Drake, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes. “The ripple effect is just phenomenal.”

It’s proof that when local organizations get the support they need, entire communities feel the impact.
