Investing in the Next Generation of Healthcare Professionals

Access to healthcare in the Hill Country depends on a strong local healthcare workforce — and that starts long before students enter medical school.

Through a partnership between Create Healthy and the Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine, Hill Country elementary, medical, and high school students are gaining hands-on exposure to healthcare careers while medical students see the importance and impact of rural medical practice firsthand.

Local educators serve as ISD Champions, bringing healthcare to life in classrooms across Llano, Mason, and Gillespie Counties. Texas A&M medical students complete two-week rotations in community clinics and practices, and community healthcare fairs connect residents with screenings and education through partnerships with AgriLife Extension.

As Create Healthy President & CEO Jayne Pope notes,

“Together, we’re building a stronger healthcare workforce for the Hill Country and investing in our younger students at the same time.”

By pairing education, mentorship, and rural clinical experience, this collaboration is planting lasting roots for the region’s healthcare future.
