Texas Ramp Project: Supporting Safer Access at Home for People with Mobility Challenges
Sometimes, a few steps at the front door can become a major barrier to fully living life.
For people with mobility challenges, safe access in and out of the home can affect everything from attending medical appointments to staying connected with family, friends, and the community. That is why Create Healthy supports the Texas Ramp Project, an organization that builds free wheelchair ramps for low-income older adults and people with disabilities.
Constructed entirely by volunteers, the ADA-compliant ramps reduce fall risk, support greater independence, ease strain on caregivers, and make it easier for people to remain active and engaged in everyday life.
Create Healthy first supported Texas Ramp Project with a $10,000 grant in 2024 and made a second $10,000 grant in 2025. In 2025, Texas Ramp Project built 31 wheelchair ramps in the region, including 10 supported by Create Healthy funding.
