Create Healthy Awards More Than $400,000 in New Grants to Strengthen Hill Country Communities

Funding supports community safety, healthy living, early childhood development, and mental health across the region

Create Healthy has awarded $431,286 in its most recent round of funding to seven organizations serving communities across the Hill Country.

Following the recommendation of the advisory Grants Council, the Create Healthy Board of Directors approved funding for projects focused on healthy living, early childhood development, and mental health. The investments will support park improvements, programs for older adults and youth, community crisis readiness, early childhood play, family support, and school-based mental health services.

“Investing in health and wellness takes many different forms. It can mean a safer place for a child to play, mental healthcare for a young person, or community-wide crisis readiness that benefits us all,” said Jayne Pope, RN, MBA, FACHE, president and CEO of Create Healthy. “Our latest funding decisions reflect the rich variety of organizations working to support health and well-being across the Hill Country.”

The newest awardees are:

  • City of Johnson City — Community Park Sports and Playground Lighting Project
  • Comfort Golden Age Center Foundation — Programs and General Operating Purposes
  • Critical Reach — Community-Wide Crisis Readiness: Safer Communities in the Texas Hill Country
  • Fellowship of Christian Athletes Fredericksburg — 2027 Summer Camp Programming
  • Mason First United Methodist Steady Steps Daycare — Steady Steps From the Ground Up Playground Project
  • SJRC Texas — Evidence-based Parenting Education Program
  • Mary’s Catholic School — Mental Health Program 2026–27

“Create Healthy looks closely at both the needs an organization has identified and the lasting benefit its work can bring,” said Laura Cook, chair, Create Healthy Grants Council. “The breadth and depth of the projects led by our newest grantees will yield long-term health and well-being dividends for all our communities.”

Create Healthy provides grants and other philanthropic support to eligible nonprofit organizations and public entities working to improve health and wellness in Gillespie, Blanco, Llano, and Mason Counties and the town of Comfort.
