Building a Healthier Hill Country: Nearly $600,000 Awarded to Support Local Wellness Projects
At Create Healthy, we believe lasting change happens when we invest in people and projects rooted in their own communities. That’s why we’re proud to share that $589,446 in new funding has been awarded this spring to four Hill Country partners working to improve lives across all stages of life.
These grants reflect Create Healthy’s ongoing mission to support mental health, early childhood development, and healthy living. And this round of funding is especially powerful because each project was shaped by the real, everyday needs of our communities.
“Each of these projects meets a deeply felt need, whether it’s creating safe spaces for young children to grow, ensuring students have access to mental health support, or expanding healthcare and elder services,” said Jayne Pope, RN, MBA, president and CEO of Create Healthy. “Impact happens when we invest in local leaders who understand the needs of our neighbors. These partners are building a healthier Hill Country, and we’re proud to support them.”
Here’s a look at the funded projects:

Holy Ghost Lutheran Church – Kindernest Playground Improvements
Gillespie County
Young children deserve safe spaces to play, explore, and grow. Kindernest is improving its outdoor play areas by adding age-appropriate structures and shaded areas — helping kids thrive through active, healthy play.

Frontera Healthcare Network – Mason Clinic Renovation Project
Mason County
Frontera is updating its Mason clinic to meet the growing need for both physical and behavioral healthcare. Renovations include expanded exam rooms and new space for mental health services, bringing essential care closer to home for rural residents.

Comfort Golden Age Center Foundation – Building Renovation Project
Comfort
Comfort’s only senior center is undergoing major upgrades to a new facility that provides meals, programs, and connection for older adults. This renovation ensures seniors have a welcoming, accessible place to gather and stay engaged in their community.

Fredericksburg ISD Education Foundation – School Social Worker Support
Gillespie County
With this support, Fredericksburg ISD will continue to offer full-time licensed clinical social workers at the middle and high school levels through 2029 so students have daily access to mental health care and crisis support when they need it most.
